Lawyers suspend work, burn copies of Law Commission recommendations

JAMMU, Apr 21: The work in High Court Jammu Wing as well as District Court Complex remained affected today as J&K High Court Bar Association suspended the work in support of the call given by the Bar Council of India to protest against the recommendations of the Law Commission of India whereby amendments to the provisions of the Advocate Act 1961, have been proposed.
The lawyers also held protest demonstration and burnt the copies of the recommendations made by the Law Commission of India. They also took out a protest march.
While addressing the protesting lawyers, Bar president B S Slathia termed the recommendations as misconceived and said, “these recommendations are required to be withdrawn forthwith”.
He appealed to the members of the legal fraternity to get united against draconian and undemocratic proposal made by Law Commission.
Later, the protesting lawyers handed over a memorandum to Union Government through Governor.
In this protest march, all the officer bearers namely Sachin Gupta (Vice President), Prem N Sadotra (General Secretary), Himanshu Sharma (Joint Secretary) and Chetan Misri (Treasurer) and large number of advocates participated.
