JAMMU, Apr 21: Expressing serious concern over the alleged loot by the private schools on the name of admission fee and other charges, Kranti Dal (KD), has asked the J&K Government to clarify on the fee structure as well as other charges.
“We hope that State Government will lend an ear to the problems being faced by parents who are being looted by private schools in the State. There needs to be some regulatory mechanism,” State president, Kranti Dal, Pritam Sharma, told reporters, here today. He alleged hegemony of private schools and commercialization of education in the State.
“We are not against private schools but are totally against their loot and the problems being faced by harassed parents. Something concrete must be done to address the dwindling education scenario in the State at the school level,” he said.
“These schools are forcing the students to purchase un-necessary items on exorbitant rates and thus fleecing the parents of their hard earned money,” he said. “These schools also opened their business in the school by providing school uniforms, bags, books, stationary, sports kits to fleece parents of the students,” he alleged.
He lamented that despite complaints in this regard, no action was taken by the Educational authorities against the erring private schools. “These schools are earning corers of rupees in lieu of commission from the suppliers of books and uniforms,” he said
Sharma asked Government to make it compulsory for Government officers, teachers and politicians to send their children to Government-run schools. “It would be the biggest reform ever, if such a rule was introduced. It will help in improving the quality of education and infrastructure in Government schools,” he added. He also urged the State Government to come up with guidelines to curtail exorbitant school fees charged by private schools and colleges.
