Special Yoga camp at SMVDU concludes

KATRA, Apr 22: NSS and Deptt of Philosophy & Culture conducted the series of five special sessions of Yoga  from  April 9 to 22, 2017 for all the registered students of NSS and value education program at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra in which more than 500 students and various faculty members participated in every day session with great enthusiasm and spirit.
The wee hours of weekends were utilized to conduct this event.  Gurmel Singh was the main Yoga instructor. Dr Anil K Tewari, Dr Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Sumanta Sarathi Sharma NSS Coordinator, Dr Ashoka K Tarai and Dr VK Tripathi Head, Dept of Philosophy & Culture were the co-instructors and organizers of the special series.
There were several Asanas (postures) which were skillfully accommodated for the holistic growth and development of both body and mind. The routine for each day varied to an extent as well as certain basic Asanas remained the same. Asanas like Tadasana, Trikonasana, Dhanurasana, Surya Namaskar, Padmasana, Ardhachandrasana, Ardhanavasana, Bhujangasana, and Sarwangasana etc were taught and performed besides several breathing exercises and meditation sessions.
Every session concluded with laughter which students enjoyed the most. The focus of the sessions was to make the participating students realize the importance of the healthy body and equipoise of mind particularly for the serious academic engagement that require unflinching mind and durable mental energy. Having achieved such a psycho-physical level, the serenity of the campus environment becomes more meaningful and productive.
Vice Chancellor, Dr Sanjeev Jain, congratulated participating students and appreciated the  organizers  of the Yoga session for their contribution to make this happen inside the University Campus.
