UDHAMPUR, Apr 25: Udhampur Police today seized 5kg poppy straw and arrested driver of the vehicle, in which the contraband was being smuggled from Kashmir.
Acting on reliable information, a police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Inspector Sanjeev Gupta, intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB06G-7111 at Sangoor Chowk NHW. During thorough search of the truck, 5 kg poppy straw (Bhuki) was recovered from the vehicle.
Police seized the poppy straw and arrested the truck driver namely Ashwani Kumar, son of Om Parkash of Bathwan Dina Nagar, Gurdaspur (Punjab). Police also seized the vehicle and registered a case FIR no 184/17 under section 8/15 NDPS Act in this connection at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, Police also claimed to have solved the case of blind murder of one Tara Chand of Kund Jangalgali, whose dead body was found from Kund Nallah, under the jurisdiction of Tikri Police Station on April 19.
Police has arrested the alleged killers, a woman and her husband. The accused woman confessed that she had murdered the deceased by hitting him with a stone on his head and later hid clothes of the dead with help of her husband namely Basu Ram.
Further investigation of the case is going on.
