JAMMU, Apr 27: A deputation of Bhatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today met Deputy Labour Commissioner of Jammu Province in his office chamber and submitted a charter of demands of industrial workers.
The deputation demanded that minimum wages be revised without any further delay as it was last revised in January 2013 and now it has lost its relevance. It was brought into the notice of Deputy Labour Commissioner that there is too much exploitation of contract labour, as neither weekly rest, gazetted holiday, earned leave, nor overtime is given to them as per law.
The deputation members alleged that labour officials responsible for implementation of labour laws are not taking it seriously, as a result of which there is too much resentment in the industrial workers and workers are agitating and industrial relations are disturbing.
The Deputy Labour Commissioner gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured that she will do whatever possible. She also constituted committee of labour officials and sought report within 15 days.
