SAMBA, May 7: Irate people of Nud here held a protest demonstration against the killing of a local resident in militant attack in Mirbazar area of Kulgam district of South Kashmir yesterday.
The protesters with the body of Hem Raj a JCB operator S/o Badri Nath resident of Papar presently living at Nud who was killed in terrorist attack at Mirbazar in Kulgam yesterday squatted on the Nud road and blocked the movement of vehicular traffic for over one hour.
They were demanded compensation for the bereaved family with a Government job to his next kin under SRO 43. They said till an assurance does not come from the Government the people will not take the body of the JCB operator for cremation.
The protesters including men, women and children were shouting slogans against terrorism and Government.
However soon the local administration including SHO Samba, Yash Pal Singh Jamwal, SSP Samba, Anil Magotra reached there and tried to pacify the protesters asking them to lift the road blockade as they will take up the issue with the Government. As the protesters did not budge later Minister of Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga, MLA Samba, Dr D K Manyal reached there and pacified the agitators. Ganga handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 as an immediate relief to the family and announced Rs five lakh as exgratia from Government side with a job under SRO 43 as is being given in militancy related incidents.
Later the protesters dispersed and took the body for cremation.
