Porters highlight demands

JAMMU, May 7: Army Porters Union has demanded early absorption of all the Army porters who were recruited at Army Area Pathankot, Udhampur and Akhnoor after clearing all medical tests and completing other formalities of concerned authorities.
They said “during Kargil war we served in most difficult terrain along with regular Army troops and 10 porters lost their lives while serving for the nation and the Government gave financial help and Government job to one person of the martyr porter families. But rest of all waiting porters arewaiting for their engagement as per the assurances and promises made by the Government and authorities.
They said they have spent precious time of life for the sake of motherland in hour of need but are still unemployed while the Government was formulating policies even for surrendered militants. They urged the authorities that be to ameliorate their demands and problems before it was too late as they have been left with no other option than to commit suicide.
