Unknown gunmen open fire at STF post, 2 cops seriously injured

DODA, May 8: Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were injured, when some unidentified persons opened fire at a Special Task Force (STF) post at Tanta, around 55 kilometers from district headquarters here early today.
As per police sources, some unidentified persons opened fire on STF post in the mountainous Tanta area of the district at 2 am, in which two SPOs received bullet injuries.
Additional police and Army personnel were rushed to the area to deal with the situation and the injured police personnel were shifted to District Hospital Doda, from where they were later airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu for advanced treatment.
The injured SPOs have been identified as Mohammad Younis (35), son of Mohammad Rafi of Gwarhi, tehsil Gandoh and Kikar Singh (35), son of Gyan Chand of Rela, Tehsil Gandoh. SPO Mohammad Younis received 2 bullet injuries (one in abdomen and one in left foot), while SPO Kiker Singh received bullet injuries in his neck and shoulder.
“12 to 13 gun shots of AK-47 were heard from the STF Post Tanta at 2 am, injuring two SPOs on duty. One SPO received bullet injuries in his neck and the other in his abdomen”, a senior police official said.
Initially, the injured SPOs were rushed to District Hospital Doda, from where they were airlifted to GMCH Jammu, where they were responding to the treatment, when reports last poured in”, he added.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Dr SD Singh Jamwal along with DIG Doda-Ramban-Kishtwar Range Nasir Ahmed and SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir also visited the spot and enquired about the whole episode.
When contacted IGP Jammu Zone Dr SD Singh Jamwal told the Excelsior that the seriously injured cops have been operated at GMCH Jammu and presently they are not fit for statements.
Ruling out militants attack, IGP said that they are investigating the matter after registering a case under relevant Sections at Gandoh Police Station, as it could be a result of rivalry or external attack as well.
