SRINAGAR, May 9: Militants this evening attacked a police party in South Kashmir district of Shopian while an alert was sounded by police after militants hijacked a car from Gudoora village of Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
Militants this evening attacked a police party at Kumdalan village of Shopian district in South Kashmir. Sources said that the militants attacked a cavalcade of senior officers including SSP, DySP and SHO at Shopian but they escaped unhurt.
They said that the police officers were returning from an Army camp and as they reached Kumdalan village militants fired at them from the orchard. However, no one was hurt.
Soon after the attack, cordon and search operation was launched in the area by security forces but militants had managed to escape.
In the meantime, Police have sounded alert in parts of Pulwama and Budgam after militants hijacked a car. A police officer said that one Mohammad Rafiq Dar of Samboora village of Pampore reported in Police Station Pulwama that a group of militants hijacked his Alto Car (White in colour) at Gudoora village. Police registered a case under FIR number 05/A/17/79.
Police have sounded an alert. All the police stations, control rooms and security agencies have been alerted following the hijacking of the car by suspected militants. “We have alerted security forces along National Highway”, a police officer said.
Just after the car was hijacked, gunshots created panic in Kralcheck village of Chadoora in Budgam district. Police said: “We have received a report that about 20-40 gunshots were heard at Kralcheck. There was, however, no report of injuries or death. Police was ascertaining the facts.”
And in North Kashmir, massive searches continue along the Line of Control (LoC) after Army foiled an attack on them near Chokas Post overlooking Aman Setu in Uri sector yesterday.
The Army continued massive search operation in Uri sector today as they wanted to ensure that no militant has managed to infiltrate into the area.
Army has apprehensions that militants, who are waiting on the launch pads in PoK may try to infiltrate into Kashmir. An Army officer said that they have been alert for last one month and yesterday’s foiling of the attack is result of alertness of troops.
