NEW DELHI: Former India cricket captain who led the team to 1983 World Cup triumph, Kapil Dev today unveiled his first wax statue at Madame Tussauds in the Capital. Kapil is among the latest sports icons, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, to join the line-up in New Delhi’s Tussauds.
Unveiling his wax figure here, Kapil said, “I am honoured to be part of the attraction and to be positioned among legends. The sitting session was an unforgettable experience. I have lived and breathed cricket all my life and today I wish every cricketer a successful journey”.
“I am honoured to get my wax figure among such icons at the age of 58 and I consider it as a huge credit that motivates me as an individual to evolve more. I am thankful to my fans who have paved my way to Madame Tussauds”, the legendary cricket icon added.
Earlier, Kapil met with Madame Tussauds’ team for the sitting process, where a group of talented world renowned artists took over 300 measurements to begin the intricate process of creating his figure.
Madame Tussauds, the interactive museum of wax sculptures and one of London’s biggest tourist attractions has 23 branches across the world. New Delhi is the 23rd at the landmark Regal Cinema in Delhi’s Connaught Place and has over 50 wax figures of celebrated personalities from the world of sport, music, history, film and television.
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Mahatma Gandhi, Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan, Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and pop icon Lady Gaga are among the personalities who are graced with wax figures in the capital.
