Of school buses

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ’11 school vehicles seized, fine imposed on 62 others’ DE May 13.
The action taken by the Traffic Police against school buses that violated MV Act/Rules is praiseworthy. This step should send  a strong signal to those school owners who do not care for safety of school children. Despite charging a hefty sum as bus fare, the owners are not willing to provide a comfortable service to children. Most of the children are seen cramped in seats, with three to four children squeezed in one seat. The situation is not so bad in big buses as is in vans and three-wheelers.
It is quite horrible in three wheelers where children are seen huddled together like cattle with their bags slung over shoulders, and sometimes hanging through windows. During summer the situation worsens further.
Children are seen sweating profusely from top to bottom. One can only have pity on them, and nothing else. Even when drivers are sanitised about it, they hardly care about it. They rather cast a contemptuous look and move on unrepentant, and unremorseful. One expects that the action taken by the Traffic Police, may stir their conscience.
Yours etc…
