This is her first film as a director and it is beautifully made. Konkana is very specific, she knows what she wants. She has a lot of experince as an actor and immense knowledge on visual elements, camera etc. I felt like I was in good hands,” the 33 year old actress said. Talking about her character in the film, that hits cinema screens on June 2, Kalki said that she is playing a role of a writer called Mitali (Mimi) who is a self confident woman and has a significant romance in the movie with the character that Vikrant Massey plays of Shyamlal Chatterjee(Shutu).
Talking about the movie, Kalki said,”the movie is based in the 1960’s, when things were much different from what they are now. People were not same as today. 60’s came up with so many introductions to music (rock and roll), so it is about these characters who are enjoying that kind of life, wearing bell bottom pants.”
Elaborating, she said,”the theme is about somebody’s death. There is a group of friends who have gone on a holiday and one person dies. Its about the connections between these people, how they treat each other. Its a drama.”
Talking about the challenges faced any during the shoot of the movie, the ‘Shanghai’ fame actress said,” we shot really crazy. Sometimes like 16 hrs a day. Once I was shooting for 40 hrs at a stretch as I had to shoot for Konkana and had another committment in Goa. So I had to travel from Ranchi to Goa.
I ended up basically not sleeping for 40 hrs.” On the new trend of web series in India, Kalki referred to ‘Naked’, a short web series made by .her . She said that it was about how social media has taken over our lives. ” It us about how we are so affected by the social media. Naked’s idea was to put one’s thought on the social platform, rather than just trolling people around.
I use social media for posting my thoughts always. So for me its a very empowering tool, where you can reach straight to your audience,” she said. On the trend of web series , Kalki said,”Web series are very new in India and its going to be an interesting time for it in the coming days.
I think lot of money is invested in such series. People really want to try it, as it gives one the freedom of subjects, one can do anything, without the fear of censorship. One can tackle subjects that are not easy to market in Television or mainstream movies. So it is a great medium for that. But it will take a while for people to understand how business will work.” Kalki said she was making a video for her poem ‘Noise’ ,”We are making a video for my poem ‘Noise’. Right now I am jamming with the musicians. It will be a short five minutes video,”she said.
