SRINAGAR, May 19: Police today arrested a man accused of raping his minor daughter for last one year in north Kashmir’s Handwara area of Kupwara district.
Police said that a man hailing from Miskeen locality of Veelgam in Handwara area was accused by his 13-year old daughter of raping her for last one year. “Since one year she was in great trauma. She narrated the story of sexual assualt to her paternal aunt and later to few Panchs of her village.
“Her relatives didn’t tell this gruesome episode to police which resulted in the repeated unacceptable act by father,” the police said adding that since months the girl was in extreme pressure and stress and subsequently she left her home along with her younger sister aged 9 years.
The police said both the sisters were found on Kupwara-Baramulla National Highway by a police constable namely Riyaz Ahmed. Both the girls were produced before SDPO Handwara Shabir Khan, the police said, adding that both the girls revealed whole matter before the senior officer.
Taking the serious allegations of the daughters, the SSP Handwara Gulam Jeelani directed for immediate registration of a case. “After swift action by police, medical opinion was taken which transpired that the girl was speaking truth,” the police said. “Subsequently a case under FIR number 30/2017 was lodged at police station Veelgam under section 376, 506 RPC,” the police said.
Meanwhile, SSP Handwara said the investigation of this case would be carried on merits and challan would be produced in the Court of law in a record time.
