JAMMU, May 20: The people residing in various parts of Jammu Province are likely to face emergency power shutdowns like the one witnessed today in the coming days as some of the equipments at Gladni Grid Station have started getting heated up in the absence of preventive maintenance.
According to the sources, an emergency shutdown was imposed by Gladni Grid Station today at around 5 pm as one of the equipments started heating up in the afternoon. The reason behind heating up of the equipment was delay in preventive and periodic maintenance.
“The equipments installed by Gladni Grid Station need proper and preventive maintenance after regular intervals particularly during the summer season and when this is not done emergency shutdown is imposed so to save the equipments from getting damaged”, sources said, adding the shutdown from 5 pm to 8 pm today was the part of this emergency exercise.
When contacted Superin-tending Engineer Gurmeet Singh told EXCELSIOR that equipment installed at Gladni Grid Station got heated up so they imposed emergency shutdown so as to avoid any inconvenience to the people during night hours.
Due to emergency power shutdown today, the people faced many problems during the scorching heat.
As the summer season is going on and the mercury is soaring day by day, the Power Development Department should take some immediate steps to overcome these power cuts and provide relief to the people, people told EXCELSIOR.
