SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today directed the officers for ensuring that the pace of developmental works being undertaken in the state are expedited with strict adherence to the stipulated timelines for their completion. He also asked for exploring the possibility of providing the basic amenities to the people living in rural and remote areas at their doorsteps.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened to discuss the status of implementation of various developmental initiatives being under taken in PDD and housing sector in the border district of Kupwara here today.
MLA Kupwara, Bashir Mir, Commissioner Secretaries Housing and Urban Development and PDD, Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara G. M. Dar, Director Urban Local Bodies, and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers to synergize their efforts in order to ensure the effective implementation of various flagship schemes undertaken in the border town. He said that the government is committed to ensure the holistic development of the state with special focus on the remote and far-flung areas.
While referring to the various initiatives being undertaken for upgradation of the electric infra in the district, the Deputy Chief Minister said that due to the sustained efforts the power scenario is being improved by providing the requisite amount of electric power to the people. He said under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Jyoti Karan Yojana all the un-electrified area, if any, would be provided with electricity.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the necessary instructions have already been passed to the officers of Housing and Urban Development Department to speed up the implementation of various flagship programmes in the district. He said that they should with the active cooperation of the people ensure success various national programmes especially Swatch Bharat Mission across the country. “‘Housing for All’ initiative should also be properly implemented in the district as it has got a tremendous potential for providing the housing facilities to the urban poor of the district” he added.
Dr. Singh also directed the district development commissioner for monitoring the overall functioning of the departments, besides holding awareness camps for the beneficiaries of the schemes and also involve the local public representatives. He said that the local representatives should also be involved in the formulation and implementation of various welfare initiatives so that their ambit is broadened
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the power generating agency, PDD to provide hassle free services to the people during the holy month of Ramadhan, and also directed to make all street lights functional in Kupwara, Handwara and Langat towns.
He also directed the officers to sensitize the every household about the sanitation
The meeting was informed that Rs. 17.50 lakhs would be released under SBM implementation for construction of HHLs in the urban areas, while 92 kanals of land has been identified under Solid Base Treatment plants at Nutmussa and Narayan.
The meeting was informed that 93.70% have been utilized out of Rs.198.70 crores under district plan 2016-17and proposed budget for the year 2017-18 has been fixed at Rs 219.24 crores.
