Search for missing Sukhoi resumes

TEZPUR:  Search and rescue operations for a Sukhoi-30 fighter jet, which had gone missing nearly 24 hours back with two pilots on board from northern Assam, was resumed this morning.

The search operations are being mainly concentrated in northern fringe of Assam (Sonipur and Biswanath districts) and bordering West Kameng district of Arunachal.

Local villagers in those areas have been alerted and asked to contact local authorities on any possible information.  Army, police and civil administration have been pressed into the search operations. Search was halted at nightfall yesterday due to difficult terrain and resumed at dawn today.

Air Force sources here said the Sukhoi-30 was on a routine practice flight and had remained in contact with the control room for an aerial distance of 48 km after takeoff from Tezpur air force base at around 1030 hours yesterday.

Last location of the flight was detected at Dubia, under Gohpur subdivision, of Biswanath district of Assam, at around 1110 hours yesterday.  (AGENCIES)
