JAMMU, May 25: Prafull Ketkar, senior journalist and editor of the RSS mouthpiece `Organiser’ today stressed the need to rectify the distorted image presented by foreign writers about India since the pre-independence era and said that journalist fraternity has a significant role in showing the things in right perspective.
“India history was never presented in right perspective by the foreign writers, who presented the things as per their suitability and mindset thus misrepresenting the facts,” he said while addressing in a function in connection with Maharishi Narad Jayanti, organized by Trikuta Samvad Kendra, Jammu Kashmir, here today.
Maintaining that a journalist must not fiddle with the facts while reporting the incident and situation, Ketkar said that credibility of a jouranalist was foremost and one needs to establish the same.
He also threw light on the changing scenario of media world and the new practices being adopted by the journalists. In the rush of electronic media and made race for TRP by the news channels, print media is still considered most credible and people in villages rely on the same for right information, he added.
Ketkar sought to correct the impression that presenting Maharishi Narad as first journalist of the world was a fresh idea, floated by right wing Hindu organizations. He informed that the first vernacular journal of India, published in 1826, was dedicated to Maharishi Narad.
Govind Singh, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, Central University, presided over the function also spoke on the occasion, He threw light on the principles of Maharishi Narad, who is described as first journalist of the world. He read out a paper on Maharishi Narad.
Earlier, Dr Satyadev Gupta, head of Trikuta Samvad Kendra, Jammu Kashmir, presented a formal welcome address while the programme was compeered by senior journalist Udhay Bhaskar.
On the occasion, senior journalist Abhimanyu Sharma, Richa Channa, Sanjeev Dubey and photo journalist Prem Kumar were honoured for their contribution towards the field of journalism.
The programme was attended by a number of journalists, prominent citizens and functionaries of Sangh Parivar.
