Nation with national hero Maj Gogoi: Bar president

JAMMU, May 27: Expressing grave concern over the ‘no-holds-barred vilification’  campaign unleashed by pro-separatist forces in Kashmir and outside against Major Leetul Gogoi, Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHCBAJ) president,  BS  Slathia today said that the whole nation stood solidly behind the national hero, Major Leetul Gogoi.
“The whole nation stands solidly behind Major Gogoi, who played a splendid role by saving the precious lives of many people, including poll staff members, in Budgam, Kashmir. He had to tie a Kashmiri trouble-maker to the bonnet of a jeep to save the lives of the innocents, the situation was such, ” Slathia said.

He added that those who have been denouncing Major Gogoi, terming his action as a “war crime” and demanding actions against him are not friends of India. “They are the enemies of the nation,” he said, adding that Major Gogoi was a man on the spot and he did what the situation demanded and we endorse his action. So, there is no human rights violationas alleged.
Slathia lauded the Army Chief,  Gen Rawat  for his decision to award appreciation certificate to him, as also his decision that Major Gogoi will not be transferred from his present place of positing in Kashmir. “The decision of the Army Chief to recognize the services and contribution of Major Gogoi and to not transfer him from his present place of posting in Kashmir must be appreciated by the friends and well-wishers of India and those who want the situation in Kashmir to become normal,” he said.
“This decision of the Army Chief was a right signal and was necessary for boosting the moral of forces. His decision, must be taken to mean that he censured the critics of Major Gogoi and his Army,” Slathia further said.
Slathia said that it’s war-like situation in Kashmir and the need of the nation and exigency of the time is that the Army and other security forces be given a free hand to eliminate the terrorism, terrorists and separatism. Our army is the most disciplined and highly professional in the world. It must be given a freehand for sometime so that they could restore peace and normality in the militant and separatist-infested Kashmir Valley,” he said.
He reiterated that JKHCBJ has all through stood behind the nationalist forces in the state and it would not mind coming on to the streets to defend the national cause and preserve the national unity and integrity. He appealed to the State Government to withdraw the FIR registered Maj Gogoi.
