Jammu, May 28: Continuing his campaign to aware the common populace about the risk factors responsible for the causation of Cardio Vascular diseases and possible prevention there of Dr. Sushil Sharma HoD Cardiology today conducted a health check up cum awareness camp in Village Marjali Block Bhalwal, Jammu.
More than 250 patients availed the services rendered by the team of doctors under the supervision of Dr. Sushil Sharma. Free medicines were distributed as per advice and various tests like ECG, Blood Sugar and Lipid Profile were also conducted.
Dr. Sushil highlighted the growing morbidity and tobacco’s impact on the cardiovascular environs. Tobacco use is a significant public health threat. In fact, smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the country. Smoking kills over one million people in India annually and is the fourth leading cause of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) such as cancer and heart diseases, which account for 53 per cent of all deaths in India, he informed.
Maintaining significant association of tobacco use with cardiovascular mortality as well as acute coronary events, Dr. Sushil held that smoking doubles the incidence of CVD and increases CVD mortality by 50% and that these increase risk with age and the number of Cigarette smoked. Women incur similar increases in the relative risk for CHD. Smoking rates continues to rise worldwide with the greatest increase in the developing world, he added.
Others who were part of this human endeavor, included Dr Dhaneshwar kapoor ,Dr. Kewal Sharma and Dr. Anitipal Singh. Paramedics and volunteers included Vikas Kumar, Gorav Sharma, Rajeev Vohra, Akshay Kumar, Ankush Kohli, Rajinder Singh, Vikas Sabharwal, Amandeep Singh, Harvinder Singh, Manoj Sharma, Kashmiri Lal, Raghav Rajput and Raj Kumar.
