MENDHAR, May 29: The people from Balakote area today held strong protest demonstration against PHE and PDD authorities and blocked Mendhar-Jammu road at Dhar Galoon for about two hours.
Reports said a large number of people including youth from several hamlets of Balakote came out on the road at Dhar Galoon and raised barricades at around 10.30 am. They sat on dharna on the busy road and started protest demonstration against the concerned authorities for the worst condition of water and power supply.
The agitating villagers were raising loud slogans against PHE and PDD Ministers besides senior officers of these departments. The villagers alleged that water supply position in the area is grim for the last one month moreover, with the long power curtailments the people of the area specially the students were suffering. A long traffic jam on both the sides was created.
Later, with the intervention of Tehsildar Mendhar, Shahzad Khan who is also holding the charge as Tehsildar Balakote, the road was cleared at around 12.30 pm. Tehsildar assured to the agitating villagers to take up the issue at the higher level.
Meanwhile, at Bera Kund area of Mendhar also the people lodged protest against the suspension of water supply due to leakage of water pipes. The people alleged that due to failure of water supply the local are mostly dependent on the natural water sources and their water is said to be unsafe as many cases of diarrhoea have been reported. On the assurance of SDM Rahul Yadav they suspended protest.
