Shaheedi Divas of Guru Arjan Dev Ji celebrated with fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, May 29:  Shaheedi Divas of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was celebrated in Jammu. The main function was organized by the management committee of Gurudwara Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Akhnoor Road, Domana, under the patronage of Sant Tejwant Singh, chairman Sant Pura Dana Charitable Trust.
Large number of devotees from all over Jammu  attended the function. Besides various local Ragis renowned Ragis including Bhai Satnam Singh ji Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib and Bhai Lalit Singh Ji Sohana Waley recited the holy  Shabad Kirtan and threw light on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and his great sacrifice.
Prominent political and social personalities present on the occasion were Manjeet Singh ex-general secretary DGPC, S Harjinder Singh, Jathedar Mohinder Singh, S Avtar Singh, all members DGPC, S Balvinder Singh social activist, S Balbir Singh, Dr Bhopinder Singh, S Manjit Singh and S Surinder Singh.
Gurmohan Singh, chairman Dharam Parchar Committee (DGPC)  Delhi  Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee and S Balbir Singh, general manager Guru Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib  threw light on the life and history of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji who sacrificed his life against the tyranny and oppression of  the then ruler who used to put pressure to change his religion. Both further  said that Guru Ji’s most important contribution to the community is the step in the separate consolidation of Guru Granth Sahib as the sole and authentic scription of the Sikh. Besides the hymns of five Sikh Gurus it contains the hymns of Hindu and Muslim saints. It also contains the hymns of 15 Bhagats and 11 Bhatts.
Charanjit Singh Khalsa, MLC and Sukhnanadan Choudhary, ex-Minister and MLA  while  addressing the Sangat stated how  Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji started the construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib and its foundation was laid by renowned Muslim Sufi Saint Mian Mir. They further stated that the authentication of the scripture of Guru Granth Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev ji himself, once and for all, ensured its separate identity and purity.
Besides various stalls of food items were erected by various organizations including one by  Kukreja Charitable Trust specially for distribution of various drinks sponspored by Dabur India ltd, Langar was also served to Sangat which was contributed by NRI Sikh Family S Joginder Singh Bali and Mrs Updesh Kour Bali trustees of Bali Charitable Trust.
S Manjit Singh State Secretary and Member SGSD International School highlighted the contribution of Sant Tejwant Singh with the support of Sikh Sangat of J&K for construction of a school in the vicinity of the Gurudwara  Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji  Domana. The School has been started from this year on CBSE pattern with all modern facilities and will set an example in future.
On the occasion of martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, BJP vice president Yudhvir Sethi accompanied by senior party leader and Minister of State for Education & Technical Education, Culture and Tourism, Priya Sethi today laid foundation stone of Gurdwara Dahre Sahib at Residency Road here.
Both leaders said that Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s universal message was equality of different spiritual thoughts. He compiled Adi Granth wherein composition of Sikh Gurus and some Hindu and Muslim saints representing different spiritual streams were incorporated.
In connection with the martyr’s day of  Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji,  an impressive Kirtan Darbar was organized at Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, Jain Bazar, Jammu by the Management Committee and Nirvair Social Organization.  Devotees  from various parts of  Jammu city attended this religious programme. A community Langar and Chhabeel was also arranged for the devotees and general public.
