JAMMU, May 31: OPD services were hit to some extent in various health institutions of Jammu province, as health employees under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) observed complete 3-hours pen down strike on second consecutive day today to support the struggle of female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHWs).
The female multipurpose health workers are on strike for last 17 days demanding permanent settlement of Salary Head 2211 and release of their pending salaries.
Almost all the cadres of Health employees including Ministerial Staff, Pharmacists, X- Ray technicians, Lab technicians, and Ophthalmic technicians, Dental technicians, OT technicians, Driver and Cleaners (SHTO), basic Health employees, Class IV employees, and even employees working under NHM Scheme participated in the strike.
All the services except emergency were paralyzed during the strike hours at various Health institutions from Lakhanpur to Banihal including major institutions like District Hospitals, Sub-District Hospitals, and Community Health Centers, Government Hospitals Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal, LRPU Gangyal and other health institutions across the division. Out Patient Departments (OPDs) remained shut during the strike hours in most of the hospitals while patients were seen waiting for these OPD registration counters to open.
Addressing the protesting female multipurpose health workers here at Madam Shashi Bala Memorial Park, Sushil Sudan, president, JKMEF, said that if the issues of female multipurpose health workers were not settled soon, JKMEF will intensify their strike.
Later, the core committee of JKMEF under the chairmanship of Sushil Sudan decided to observe full-day strike from June 8 to 10 initially if the Government fails to fulfill all the demands of FMPHWs within a week’s time and later it will be converted into indefinite strike of Health employees across Jammu Division.

Meanwhile, FMPHWA Doda under the banner of JKMEF held protest cum dharna at the office of Chief Medical Officer Doda under the chairmanship of Halima Tahir, president, FMPHWA Doda. Simultaneously, on 2th day three hours pen down strike was observed at District Hospital Doda and all block head quarters of Doda.
Others who lead the token strike in various health institutions are were Neeraj Malagar and Sanjeevan Sharma (Kathua), Kuldeep Dabgotra and Kamla Devi (Samba), Dheeraj Sharma and Mema Devi (Udhampur), Abdul Hamid Bhat and Bhanu (Reasi), Ajit Kumar, Javed and Mohd Zargar (Kishtwar), Farooq Mirza and Adarsh Sharma (Rajouri), Balbir Singh, Sourav and Pardeep Bali (Poonch), Irshad and Ashok Behal (Ramban), Rakesh Bakshi and CL Koul (Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar), Rajesh Polu (Government Hospital Sarwal), and Parveen and Sanjay Dubey (LRPU Gangyal).
