JAMMU, May 31: The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), a social security organization under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt of India has recently extended the scheme in all the 22 districts of Jammu & Kashmir.
While the scheme was fully implemented in eight districts as on August Ist, 2016, in the 14 remaining districts, it is being implemented with effect from April Ist, 2017 in the Municipal limits of district headquarters of these 14 districts including Leh and Kargil of Ladakh division.
In a process to finalize the coverage and implementation with regard to registration of eligible employers (shops/ establishments/ contractors/ man power supply agencies etc under the ESI Act), MK Arya, Regional Director, ESIC, J&K Region along with the State Medical Commissioner and other Field Officers visited Leh recently and at the same time, the SMC finalized contract with empanelled Insured Medical Practioners (IMPs) and the ESIC officers visited Kargil as well.
Before notification of the scheme in District Headquarters’ Municipal limits of remaining 14 districts of J&K including Leh and Kargil, a preliminary survey was done by ESIC in 2016 and in order to have a detailed identification of coverable shops/establishment etc, the ESIC officers held meeting with senior Administrative officers of districts Leh and Kargil to seek their support in terms of collecting data.
MK Arya, for payment of cash benefits to the insured persons, a proposal of opening of two branch offices one in Leh and another in Kargil has been moved and the Branch offices in Leh and Kargil will be opened once the said proposal is dully approved.
Arya said that for the purpose of implementation of the Scheme and coverage of units, ESIC field officers if required, will visit Leh and Kargil again to inform and educate the employers about on-line registration and eligibility processes and benefits of coverage.
ESIC is a country’s premier social security organization constituted by an Act of Parliament under Ministry of Labour & Employment Govt of India with a mandate to cater to the social security needs of around 3.10 crore insured persons with their families employed with organized sector and registered with it.
