Poster making, other events mark ‘World No Tobacco Day’

JAMMU, May 31: Poster making, skits and other events marked “World No Tobacco Day”.
JAMMU: The events to commemorate World No Tobacco Day were organized at  Bal Niketan Ambphalla, Rajinder Park and Green Belt Park where the participants were made aware about the ill effects of tobacco.
On occasion of World No Tobacco Day, a poster making and a seminar were organized at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, where students of Government ANMT Nursing School, doctors and consultants spoke on the occasion. Dr Arun Kohli, Deputy Director Schemes Directorate of Health Services Jammu was the chief guest, while Dr Madhuri Slathia, Medical Superintendent Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Dr Arun Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Dr Chander Parkash, Asstt Director Health Education Bureau, Dr Deepak Kapoor State Venerologist, Dr Sanjay Turki, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jammu, other officers from Directorate of Health Services Jammu, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and staff members of hospital were also present. Dr KK Gupta, Senior Consultant Physician and Dr Rohit Senior Consultant Dentistry also spoke on the occasion.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) senior Vice President Yudhvir Sethi said that the theme “Tobacco-A threat to development” must be followed vigorously as smoking not only affects individual but also destroys his/her family and threatens development of any nation whose people are more into smoking. Sethi was speaking at a function organised on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day and centenary celebrations of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya, where he was chief guest. On the occasion, six persons pledged to quit smoking and assured the visiting dignitary that they will help in strengthening the society and set an example of moral values. Sethi assured that every possible help would be rendered to develop the ward in all respects and their issues would be taken up with concerned departments and redressed accordingly. District President Baldev Singh, Anil Masoom, Ashwani Sharma, Ram Prahash, Govind Sareen, Arun Sethi, Madan Gopal, Lalit Sharma, Vikram Jeet and many others were present on the occasion.
Department of Botany and Zoology of Central University of Jammu celebrated “World No Tobacco Day” by organizing an awareness campaign at its TAB, Sainik Colony, Jammu here today. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu stressed upon the importance of having a healthy body to house a healthy mind, which in turn would lead to a healthy society and order in the world. Dr Deepak Abrol, Radiation Oncologist, GMC, Jammu, Founder LBNROH–Cancer Care Foundation and Vice President, Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (North Zone) delivered a lecture on the Theme “Tobacco–A threat to development”. Prof SK Khosa, Head, Departments of Physics, Nano and Material Sciences, Prof Narinder Tripathi, HoD Department of Botany and Zoology, Dr Samantha Vaishnavi and many others were present on the occasion. Akanksha Sharma from Botany Department stood first in poster making, while Supreet Kour from Botany Department ranked first in slogan writing competition.
To commemorate World No Tobacco Day, Institute of Dental Sciences organised a seminar on WHO theme “Tobacco-A Threat to Development”. The programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr YK Singla, Vice President Dr Arvinder Pal Singh and Administrator Dr Sarbjeet Singh along with IDA Jammu team. An anti tobacco pledge was taken by the entire team of the institute as their social responsibility towards “Tobacco Free Nation”. A highly motivated counselling session was held for the patients by using multimedia aids. A poster making competition was organised by Public Health Dentistry to highlight detrimental effects of tobacco and best three posters were awarded. President IDA Jammu Dr Rajiv Mengi, Past President, IDA Jammu Dr Gautam Sharma, Dr Bhavneet Kaur, Dr Diljot Kaur and Dr Sarang Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
Jammu Sanskriti School, Jammu organised an awareness drive in the school premises supporting World No Tobacco Day to highlight and raise responsiveness among students, staff and community. Raising effective awareness about tobacco and its menace was done through poster making in which the students of classes 7th and 8th made enlightening posters, displayed them around with messages on the negative effects of thee use of tobacco expressing their creativity and perspective. The students of the senior wing presented the power point presentation on “World No Tobacco Day”. An interactive session was organised organised. The programme was co-ordinated by Prabhjot Kaur, Co-ordinator and executed by Munmun Kohli. Principal-cum-Vice- Chairperson of the school Rohini Aima was also present on the occasion.
SAMBA: An informative interactive session-cum-cultural programmes was organised in collaboration with Block Development Office at Panchayat Katli. Dr Mehvash and Dr Monika Kumari informed the gathering on diseases, health and financial hazards associated with tobacco consumption. Among others Block Development officer Malavika Sharma, Information officer, Sana Khan and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
REASI: District Information Centre organised a symposium at Government High School Pattian. Students, teachers and people in large number were present on the occasion.
KATHUA: A theme based program depicting the ill effects of tobacco was organised at DIC. Cultural items were presented by the department with an aim to create awareness about ill- effects of smoking.
RAMBAN: District Information Centre (DIC) Ramban organized a symposium on “Tobacco-a threat to development” to mark World No Tobacco Day in the premises of Government Girls High School (GGHS) Ramban. Headmaster of the host school Amjad was the chief guest, while District Correspondent of Parsarbarti, Ravinder Krishan Kichlu presided over the function. Students and other speakers delivered lecture on signs and symptom of diseases due to tobacco abuse and its abuses. Meanwhile, a skit and anti drugs songs were also presented by the students and local artists.
Anti Tobacco Day was celebrated in district court complex Ramban besides a legal awareness camp was also organised on the occasion. The camp was organised on the direction of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ramban Kalpana Revo. CJM Ramban Yahaya Firdoous, Munsif Ramban Geeta Kumari, Additional Mobile Magistrate Ajay Kumar and advocates spoke on the occasion.
DODA: Department of Health and Family Welfare Block Ghat in collaboration with National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke under the Supervision of Block Medical Officer (BMO) Ghat Dr Ghansham Singh and under the direction of CMO Doda Dr Wajid Ali Najar observed the World Tobacco Day at Block Headquarters Ghat. In this connection, a debate competition was organized by the Health Department at GHSS Ghat to observe the day. Principal GHSS Ghat Shahida Khan was the chief guest, while Senior Dental Surgeon Dr Tahir Muneeb Zargar was the resource person from Health Department besides Dr Nasir Masood Indrabi, Dr Hasam-ud-Din, Mashood Latief, Zeeshan Ali Tramboo, and Ashok Shan were among others from Health Department Block Ghat who were present on the occasion. Faizan Ali Tramboo conducted the proceedings of the programme.
Government Higher Secondary School, Gundoh celebrated World No Tobacco Day. The function was presided over by Mohammed Ayoub Rather, Incharge Principal GHSS Gundoh. A rally was also taken out on the occasion.
Gayasia Model School Changa in collaboration with Educational, Environmental, Social, Sports and Cultural Society Bhalessa organised a rally to commemorate World No Tobacco Day. A symposium was also organised, which was presided over by Chairman of the Society Mohammad Ayoub Zarger. Students delivered speeches, followed by skits and action songs. Zeeyan Abid Zager, Ifat Hayat and Zeenat Hayat bagged top three positions respectively. Cash prizes and other consolation prizes were also distributed among the participating students.
UDHAMPUR: District Legal Services Authority Udhampur in collaboration with District Information Centre Udhampur organized a legal awareness camps at Charisallian to mark “World No Tobacco Day”. Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Udhampur Sushil Singh, who is also the chairman of DLSA was the chief guest on the occasion. Retainer Lawyers Pawan Gupta and Yasmeen, NT Balwant Singh, Advocate Pawan Gupta, Panchayat Secretary RDD Surbhi Sharma, officials of Information Department and large number of prominent citizens were present on the occasion. An awareness rally of students of ANMT school was also taken out which was flagged off by Dr Arun Mahajan in presence of Medical Superintendent District Hospital Udhampur Dr Narinder Bhatial. A Nukad Natak was also presented by the students.
POONCH: A cultural programme and symposium on the topic “harmful effects of tobacco in society” was organised at Balashram. While speaking on the occasion the speakers sensitized the participants about ill effects of tobacco products and exhorted the need of active participation of all stakeholders to check its use. Skits were also presented on the theme for generating awareness about various deadly disease caused by use of tobacco.
LEH: District Health Department Leh celebrated the World No Tobacco Day on the Theme “Tobacco-Thread to Development”. The celebration was attended by Upper and Lower Leh Councillors, religious leaders, women organization, representatives from NGOs, Merchant Association, doctors and paramedical staff. During the interaction section it was decided that collective efforts will be made to make Leh city as Smoke Free City. Senior Physician Dr Tsering Norboo (Retd), Upper Leh Councillor Venerable Lobzang Nyantak, Ladakh Buddhist Association Vice-president PT Kunzang and LBA Youth President Rinchen Namgyal were also present and expressed their views.
