JAMMU, June 1: The daily rated workers of  Power Development  Department (PDD)  held strong protest demonstration against the Government  here today.
A large number of temporary workers of the PDD,  assembled at Press Club in the morning  and pulling out their shirts and under shirts,  started protest demonstration. They were demanding release of their long pending wages and also  regularization of their services.  They were raising loud slogans against the PDD authorities, concerned minister  and the State Government.

Later, they took out a protest march and also disrupted movement of traffic near Dogra Chowk for some time.  Then they moved towards Indira  Chowk where strong police contingent stalled their further protest march. During protest  one of their   protesting colleague  fell down and turned unconscious on the road. He was later rushed to Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu in police vehicle.
Earlier,  several senior trade unionists and president of the Daily Wagers Workers Union addressed the gathering and criticized the State Government  for ignoring their demands. They said that workers are on strike for the last more than 134 days but Govt has failed to intervene and resolve their issues. They demanded that all those workers  who have completed seven years  in service be regularised  and pending wages of  the workers be cleared as  their families were facing starvation.
