Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Raina in list of top 100 athletes’ DE June 1.
It is good to see a number of Indian players in the ESPN World Fame 100 list. The list pertains to ESPN’s ranking of the 100 most famous active athletes in the world.
These players have achieved this distinction through their devotion and dedication to the game of cricket. These players have important role in uplifting cricket to new heights.
It is not for nothing that these players have made their presence felt on world sports map. The rich fan following of these players around the world is indicative of their popularity. However, it is quite dismaying to note that no Indian player from other games like football, tennis etc has found a place in this prestigious list. Though some women players like PV Sandhu, Sania Mirza or Sahina Naiwal are sparkling then and now, it will take much more time for Indian sports to take off. In sports sector India is far behind other countries like China, Russia or America.
Yours etc…
