SRINAGAR: To ensure maximum security to pilgrims undertaking the yatra to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalyas from June 29, a high level meeting was held here today.
The meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid held at police headquarter today was also attended by senior paramilitary, police and civil officials.
All the security issues of pilgrims at base camps and en-route has been discussed and deployment of enhanced Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and of police is being charted out, Dr Vaid said.
Dr Vaid said fool proof security arrangements should be put in place on all yatra routes and the base camps to ensure safety of the pilgrims.
He said security of the vulnerable areas will be strengthened to thwart any mischief by anti-national elements (ANEs) and militants.
He directed that langars should not be allowed along the National Highway in view of the security of Yatra.
For effective regulation and movement of yatris on the alternate routes, concerned district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) will coordinate and put on alert all SHOs and Chowki officers during the yatra, falling along the NH.
At each base camp, police posts would be established to address the security issues, the police chief said, adding boarding of pilgrims be taken with due care, the DGP said.
Dr Vaid stressed that the stray vehicles should not be allowed to mix with the yatra convoys to avoid accidents. It was decided that no vehicle with yatris be allowed to proceed further from Jawahar Tunnel after 1530 hrs and the vehicles coming from Jammu during late hours should be halted at Ramban. (AGENCIES
