JAMMU, June 9: Suresh Singh (35 years) resident of Satwari, Jammu, who is having body weight of more than 165 Kgs, accidentally fell from stairs and his right femur got badly injured. Actually it can be said that this was not mere an accident. It happened due to over-weight.
His family immediately took him to nearest hospital and afterwards to several other hospitals for treatment but no one was able to treat him due to his over-weight. One hospital agreed for his surgery at Jammu but at the initial stage, their operation table crashed due to heavy weight. Fortunately, the patient survived from any further injury. Finally, he was brought to Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar. Dr Avtar Singh, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon, Amandeep Hospital examined him and admitted him for immediate surgery. Few days ago, he was operated successfully. He is absolutely all-right now and being discharged from Hospital. He informed media persons that when he contacted several other prominent hospitals of the region and they denied him from treatment as they were not having sufficient facilities to take care of obese patients and lack of experience, he lost all hope. When he met Dr Avtar Singh, he fully assured and counseled him. He is feeling like a new birth again.
Another obese patient Arshpreet Singh (18 Years) resident of Muktsar and a student of class 12th met with a car accident on 19th May. His left arm & leg got badly fractured. He has also been operated successfully at Amandeep Hospital and now going back to his home.
Speaking with media persons in this regard, Dr Avtar Singh said it was a very complicated case as it is very tough for a surgeon to treat obese patient because it requires several related changes. Surgery of obese patients is not possible in small hospitals as special expertise and facilities are mandatory to operate such patients successfully.
