JAMMU, June 10: Continuing their protest for the 117th consecutive day, the agitating Contractual Lecturers took out a protest march from Press Club to Jewel Chowk and staged a dharna at the ever busy crossing, here today.
Carrying a large banner and raising slogans in support of their demand as well as criticizing the State Government, the protesting Contractual Lecturers also tried to disrupt vehicular traffic for a moment.
However, the protest rally passed off peacefully and there was no confrontation with the Police. The protesters included a number of female Contractual Lecturers, who were highly critical of the State Government for its callous attitude on their genuine demand of regularization.
Pertinent to mention that these Contractual Lecturers are protesting for the last 117th days and observing a chain hunger strike at Exhibition Ground Jammu. They are demanding regularization as per Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, which was passed by the State Legislature for regularization of all the Ad-hoc/ Contractual /Consolidated employees as one time exception.
While addressing the protest demonstration, Arun Bakshi, president of the Contractual Lecturers (10+2) Association, said that despite all the clarifications made by the Divisional Commissioner by communicating to the Administrative Department that the demand of 10+2 Contractual Lecturers was genuine, the State Government did not pay heed to the issue of Contractual Lecturers who were on hunger strike in such hot weather conditions.
The protest demonstration was also addressed by Balvinder Kour, Zabir Hussain Shah and others.
Meanwhile, Ashwani Kumar, Abdul Jabbar Bhat, Madhvi Sharma and Ramana Kumari replaced the previous batch today for continuing chain hunger strike.
