JAMMU, June 10: Pakistan army tonight again resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing along Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district targeting forward defence locations and civilian population, prompting an effective retaliation from the troops.
Official sources said Pakistani troops started shelling at Mankote, Balnoi, Nangi Tekri and surrounding areas of Krishna Ghati sector around 8.20 pm. Initially, Pakistan army violated ceasefire with small and heavy arms but later resorted to 82mm mortar shelling.
The Indian side was responding effectively, leading to heavy exchanges.
There were no reports of casualties or damage on the Indian side till the reports last came in, sources said, adding Pakistan might have suffered some damages in retaliation by the Indian troops, which was very heavy.
Panic gripped the border villagers in entire Krishna Ghati sector following fresh spell of shelling and firing by Pakistan.
Sources didn’t rule out the possibility of Pakistan army trying to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants on the LoC under the cover of mortar shelling. However, the Indian Army is maintaining high alert along the LoC to thwart infiltration attempts.
