In a statement issued here today, Abdul Qadir Khan president of the Pahari Speaking Students Union University of Jammu said that it is of no use to give political reservation to any community living under same conditions without giving ST Status to Paharis which comprises of a considerable part of State’s population.
He said way back in 1989 State Government recommended eight communities for the ST status and Paharis stood at number 1, but unfortunately they were denied the Paharis status till date.
He said the Pahari students are not against the reservations but granting of reservations and ignoring the Paharis is a cruel joke with the community.
He said successive Governments, Justice Sageer Commission, interlocutors on J&K have time and again recommended the ST status for Pahari people but the community is given a step motherly treatment in this regard.
He said the Pahari community’s patience has already reached the threshold and it will not tolerate any more discrimination.
He said after the Eid the Pahari community will intensify its struggle for grant of ST status to the community. Till Pahari community is not given the reservations it will consider the decision of granting reservations to any community it BDC an anti Pahari decision, he added.
