I was fed up with playing female characters: Ali Asghar

NEW DELHI:  Actor Ali Asghar, who enthralled television audiences with his comic streak in shows like ‘Comedy Circus’ says that  he was fed up of playing female characters  again and again. The actor, who has recently done a voice-over for the very first time in an animated movie ‘Despicable Me 3’ for the character Gru and his twin brother Dru, says that he  wants to do multiple characters and was fed up playing female roles repeatedly. “Believe me,  I did not have any work for 6 months just because I didn’t want to do the female characters. Later in 2012 Rajiv Mehra ji asked me for Jeannie Aur Juju and I said I definetly want to do it,because I wanted to win my children’s faith back in me and fortunately the show went well,” he told UNI here. Denying that he had any differences with Kapil  Sharma, the actor said, ” I did not have any fight with Kapil. It was the character which was getting repetitive despite my bringing it to the notice of the team. When nothing was done about it, I said fine.”

He said that in Comedy Circus, out of 21 appearances, he got female roles 17 times which had a major influence on his son who felt that his father could not do any other act besides playing a woman. He was very clear  that he does not want to do female characters again at all. ”It is not enjoyable to me anymore. Just because of the Comedy Circus I had to perform according to the viewer’s demand and the writers took it for granted and had a easy job by assigning me feminine roles,”he says. On doing voice-over for the very first time in an animated movie ‘Despicable Me 3’ for the character Gru and his twin brother Dru, Ali Asghar said Ashim Samanta chose him  for the project after the voice testing was done.  ”The Hindi dubbing has a touch of Punjabi and Lucknawi style for both the characters differently,”he said. On doing the animation film, Ali said, “My priority is to impress my kids. I was never into animated movies. My genre was different. My whole childhood went by watching Mehmood Sahab’s movies,” he says. About his upcoming project “Super Night” show that will be aired on Sony TV  today, Asghar said the show will witness the promotion of movie Tubelight . (AGENCIES)
