NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today refused to pass any order or interim order in Aadhaar case.
A vacation bench of the apex court, headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar and also comprising Justice Navin Sinha, however, said that those who are not having Aadhaar cards/numbers, would not be deprived of any Government schemes or benefits till the next date of hearing, which is July 7 in the case.
The Central Government today also informed the apex court that the dates have been extended till September 30, for those who are not having Aadhaar cards or numbers for availing various Government benefits or schemes.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Shyam Divan, arguing for various petitioners, told the court that the 2015 SC order made it clear that no one will be denied any government social welfare benefits or schemes, due to lack of an Aadhaar card or number.
He also told the top court of the country that the Aadhaar scheme cannot be made mandatory till a larger or Constitution bench decides the main issue of privacy.
Anyone who thinks that their right was deprived can approach the court, Tusshar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) and senior lawyer appearing for the Central Government, told the vacation bench of the apex court today.
The Supreme Court, in its judgement on June 9, had stayed the Central Government order of linking Aadhaar with PAN and had said that till the constitution bench decides the matter, it was stayed. (AGENCIES)
