Sham Choudhary emphasizes sufficient irrigation facilities during paddy season

JAMMU: Emphasizing sufficient irrigation facilities for the farmers during paddy season, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary, today exhorted upon the engineers to ensure that the irrigation resources should function properly at all levels.

The Minister, while chairing a meeting in this regard, directed the officers to further gear up their men and machinery so that the farmers do not suffer on this account.

Sham Choudhary, during the meeting, had a detailed review of all aspects of irrigation scenario in the region besides deliberating on certain issues envisaging further streamlining of this vital system. He asked the officers to adopt an innovative and pragmatic approach towards meeting people’s irrigational requirements.

Taking cognizance of unauthorized pump sets on Ranbir and Partap Canal, the Minister directed for removal of the same so that each agricultural field gets its due. He also directed to check illegal discharge of distributaries and removal of garbage from the canals.

The Minister, while assessing the department’s preparation and arrangements for paddy season, asked the concerned officers to make sure that the farmers get proper water supply and other facilities.

The Minister was informed about preparation of DPR of lift station on Chenab river to supplement the capacity of Pratap Canal which will further enhance irrigation water supply to farmers.

The Minister asked the Executive Engineer to ensure timely repair of damaged transformers and motors to facilitate the farmers with adequate irrigation services.

Chief Engineer I&FC, Rajeev Gandotra and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
