UDHAMPUR, June 27: Agitated over opening of a wine shop in the area, locals of Battal Balliyan held a strong protest demonstration, here today.
Shouting slogans, the protesting people were demanding immediate closure of the wine shop, which is situated in centre of Battal Balliyan village. They alleged that the wine shop was creating nuisance in the village and threat to peace in the area.
The villagers said that Battal Balliyan area has 15 villages in its vicinity and shifting of wine shop there from another place near National Highway would not be allowed at any cost.
Threatening to intensify agitation if the wine shop is not closed, the villagers also appealed the Deputy Commissioner for not granting any no objection in favor of wine license holder.
A large number of women participated in the protest demonstration, which continued for more than two hours.
