JAMMU, June 27: Former president of  Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and sitting president of Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries Cross LoC Trade, has  appealed to all the sections of society, especially the political parties, not to obstruct the introduction of GST  regime as it reflects a modern consumer and business-friendly taxation system for the betterment of the country.
In a press statement here Sharma said GST was proposed as early as during the last decade by the then Congress lead UPA Govt but it was opposed  by the present ruling Govt for reasons best known to them. However, it is good that they have realized the utility of GST. Despite various reservations against the way in which it is being introduced, the Congress has supported the move. Some other political parties also admits that it is useful legislation but are opposing it simply for the reason of showing their one upmanship and concocting lame excuses about its short comings and draw backs.
Sharma was of the view that any innovation in any field is opposed initially but is appreciated in the long run when its benefits come to the fore and misunderstandings are removed. He said there may be hiccups in its introduction. The Government must ensure that the trade, business, an industry grows in a healthy way, without any problem of corruption, Inspector Raj, unnecessary harassment and filling of tax returns.
He assured the traders and industrialist of the State that the present Government in the State has made it categorically clear that its introduction will not hamper the financial economy of the State in any way and was keen to introduce it alongwith the rest of the country from July Ist, 2017. However, some political parties were raising unnecessary objections for its introduction due to their vested interests.
He appealed to the State Govt to go ahead with its introduction from July Ist as non- implementation from this date will badly impact business industries in the State.
