SRINAGAR, June 28: A delegation of the Indian National Congress (INC) comprising Ghulam Nabi Monga, Member Legislative Council (MLC) and Members Legislative Assembly, Haji Rashid, Muhammad Amin Bhat and Usman Majid met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their views regarding the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the State and status of ongoing consultations between the Government and their party on this important issue; the prevailing law and order scenario in the Valley and the measures required to be initiated to bring peace and normalcy in the State.
Governor advised the delegation to keep the interests of the consumers and the State foremost during their consultation with the Government regarding implementation of the GST, being held on June 29, and urged them to continue their sustained efforts for bringing peace and development in the State.
Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Chief Executive Officer, Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project also called on Governor and briefed him about the status of ongoing works to support the recovery and increase disaster resilience in the project areas along with the restoration of public service infrastructure.
Governor advised Nayak to ensure the timely completion of all projects, with particular attention to strengthening disaster risk management systems and institutions so that the project benefits the entire affected region.
Dr. S. Khurshid-ul-Islam, Course Co-ordinator, J&K IMPA&RD, accompanied by Shrikant Balasahab Suse, an IAS Probationer also called on Governor.
Dr. Islam briefed the Governor about training programmes being offered to the IAS probationers at the IMPA&RD J&K and the training which Suse was presently undergoing.
Governor discussed with Suse about his training schedule and advised him to devote high attention to getting fully acquainted with the problems faced by the people at large and ensure prompt and effective attention to resolving them. He also advised this young officer to work with zeal and dedication for enhancing public welfare in his future service in J&K.
