Engineering graduates hold convention, seek end to adhocism

SRINAGAR, July 1: A convention of Civil Engineering Graduates Association was held today at lawns of engineering complex at Rajbagh here. Civil engineers from all the cadres of the R&B as well as hydraulic departments participated in the event.
The speakers while emphasizing the need of strengthening the association discussed various issues facing the community. “Engineers expressed their dissatisfaction with the apathetic attitude of the Government towards the vital departments of the State entrusted with the development of the Jammu and Kashmir,” said a spokesman of the Association.
He said that the “mismanagement of the technical human resource, the adhocism in the cadre, gradual and sustained lowering of pay scales, bureaucratic and political hegemony in otherwise technical decision were highlighted in the convention as the detrimental factors for affecting the efficiency of the departments”.

It was decided to hold elections of the Association at the earliest in order to make working of the Association more vibrant, he said, adding that the existing body of the Association was disbanded and an interim executive body of the Association was selected with consensus to carry out affairs of the Association till a proper elected one was in place.
“It was impressed upon the Government to address their genuine and long pending grievances on priority, so as not to force engineers to come on streets,” the spokesman of the Association added.
