JAMMU, July 11: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the respondents for strict adherence to Motor Vehicles Act and removal of all the illegal parking stands, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice BS Walia today directed the State to ensure that the school buses run in accordance with the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and encroachment from the roads are removed within a period of six months.
After hearing Senior Advocate DC Raina with Advocate Arun Kumar for the PIL whereas Senior AAG S S Nanda, Advocate Adarash Sharma, Dy AG Ehsan Mirza, Government Advocate Manuj Mahajan and Advocate M L Sharma, the DB further directed respondents to take effective steps to address the issue of traffic congestion in the Jammu city and also ensure that the inter-state bus terminal is constructed in district Samba within a period of six months.
The respondents were further directed to ensure up-gradation of existing bus stands and construction of four new proposed bus stands within a period of six months and take effective steps to control the vehicular pollution in Jammu city besides construction of parking places.
“All these directions as well as those issued earlier shall be strictly implemented within a period of six months from today”, the DB added.
