Major ‘security breach’ in Army installations

JAMMU, Oct 27: Police today arrested a Computer M Tech engineer from Churu, Rajasthan for several time breaching hi-tech security at various Army installations including 16 Corps at Nagrota, Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh and Military Hospital, Satwari on the basis of fake identity card of Army Captain, uniform and other fake documents like pay slips, call letters and court martial.
The impersonator, who was nabbed by Nowabad police from Hotel Rajdhani at Jewel Chowk this afternoon, has been identified as Umesh Kumar son of Mani Ram, a resident of village Taragarh in Churu district of Rajasthan, presently putting up at Rajpura, Patiala in Punjab.
The impersonator was arrested during a routine surprise raid conducted at Hotel Rajdhani to keep a vigil on the guests. As he was found wearing police uniform, police parties headed by SHO Nowabad Jai Pal Sharma became doubtful and took him into custody. He spilled the beans during his interrogation.
Police said the impersonator was in possession of a large number of fake Army identity cards and documents, all of which he had fabricated to meet his lover, who was posted as a Nurse in the Military Hospital, Satwari.
However, police didn’t rule out the possibility of the youth making the Nurse a bridge to intrude into the Army for “ulterior motives’’. Everything is a matter of investigation, police sources said, adding that the Army officials would be given a detailed briefing on recoveries made from the youth, who has been booked under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 419 and 171 RPC at Nowabad police station.
Army PRO Col RK Palta declined to comment on the arrest saying that they were yet to get facts from the police.
Sources said Umesh Kumar has so far admitted that he had visited Corps Headquarters at Nagrota 10 times, Military Hospital Satwari twice and Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh once. He was also present at Dehradun during passing out parade of the Army Nurse, who hailed from Ajmer, Rajasthan.
He had telephone numbers of 180 officers of the Army.
Sources said the impersonators was in possession of fake identity card as Army Captain, uniform, one Smart card, Canteen card, pay slips of Pune Army Headquarters, documents showing that he had once been court martialled but acquitted and medical examination record of Military Hospital, Satwari.
Sources said Umesh Kumar has disclosed during questioning that Army Nurse had once become doubtful of his credentials. To prove that he was an Army officer, he had fabricated a court martial cutting and showed it to the Nurse claiming that he had once been court martialled but later acquitted.
He had also fabricated a fake call letter to show it to the Nurse that he had joined Army.
Police said sustained interrogation of the Army Captain was on and some important clues were expected of him. He was being grilled to ascertain how he managed to get make such a large number of fake identity cards and documents of the Army.
He had got himself examined at the Military Hospital posing himself as Army Captain.
Police said the impersonator was now staying at Hotel Rajdhani at Jewel Chowk when he was arrested.
