JAMMU: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city to review the ongoing development works and preparedness of concerned departments in wake of monsoon season here today.
Deputy Chief Minister directed JMC to ensure requisite measures to check water logging during monsoon season so that people do not face any inconvenience. He asked to put in place a comprehensive mechanism to deal with any constraint arising out of the heavy rainfall.
He said that encroachments along drains and nallahs is main cause of water logging and overflowing of rain water and directed concerned officers to launch a massive drive to remove such encroachments.
Deputy Chief Minister inspected various ongoing projects of JMC and directed the officers for speedy completion of work taking Monsoon season into consideration. He asked the officers to submit a comprehensive report of ongoing and future projects to his office.
Deputy Chief Minister also interacted with the people and gave a patient hearing to their grievances. He assured them that efforts will be made to redress the same. He urged the residents to stop using polythene bags and advised them to properly dump the garbage. Dr Singh asked the officers to spread awareness among the masses for a better and healthy environment. He also directed the concerned officers for renovation and maintenance of parks.
Terming power theft and illegal connections as root cause of frequent power cuts, Deputy CM directed the concerned officers to take strict action against the violators and take necessary measures to prevent power pilferage.
Taking a strong note of illegal connections the Deputy Chief Minister directed for strict action against negligent officers and also directed the officers to penalize violators.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister also visited project site for Multiple Parking cum Commercial Complex at Bus Stand and inspected the progress of work. He directed the concerned authority for timely completion of the project.
As parking is one of the main concerns in the city, he also directed the concerned officers to identify new parking areas.
Commissioner, JMC, M. Raju, Joint Commissioner, R.S Jamwal, Joint Commissioner Works, Kushal Chand, C.T.O, Talat Mahmood Khan , Superintendent Engineer , XEN and other concerned officers also accompanied the Deputy CM during the tour.
