Lok Sabha adjourned for day without transacting any business

NEW DELHI, July 18: The second day of the proceedings in the Lok Sabha in the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament was washed out today as the House was adjourned for the day without transacting any business.
In the post noon session, as soon as the House assembled, Opposition members from various parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Left parties, RJD, JD(U), AAP and NCP were up on their feet trying to raise their issues. As Members remained defiant, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.
Most Congress Members led by Gaurav Gogoi rushed to the Well raising anti-government slogans with few Members also carrying placards. “Kisan bachao, desh banao (Save Farmers to build up the country)” – slogan was raised by Deepender Singh Hooda, Gaurav Gogoi and others while Members from other parties were also seen trying to make their point.
Earlier in the day, even during Question Hour, the Speaker had to adjourn the House till 1200 hrs within minutes of it resuming day’s proceedings after Opposition members rushed to the Well and created pandemonium.
As soon as Speaker Sumitra Mahajan finished her brief statement condemning a series of terror attacks including in Manchester, London and Afghanistan and on the deaths of several people in natural disasters in northeast India, the Opposition members were up on their feet trying to raise different issues. Among others, the Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge was the first to stand up and seek Speaker’s attention to raise his issue.
In the post 1200 hrs session, amid noisy scenes, papers were laid and three Government bills were also introduced.
The Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill was introduced by Minister of State for Urban Development Rao Inderjit Singh. Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma introduced the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment) Bill while Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan introduced the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Bill.
Condemning a series of terror attacks including in Manchester, London and Afghanistan, the Speaker said, “this House unequivocally and in strongest terms condemns these dastardly terrorist attacks and condoles the loss of innocent lives in these terror attacks and stands in solidarity with the people, Parliament and the Government of United Kingdom and Afghanistan”.
