KARGIL, July 21: Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan today said that keeping in view the importance of the NH 1D the lifeline of Ladakh and importance of Zojjila Pass and the difficulties arising during snow clearance every year on this stretch, the works related to road networking and its maintenance on the stretch from Captain Morh to Zero Point should be handed over to Project VIJAYAK.
He said this move will help in smooth up-gradation, maintenance and snow clearance work on the Zojjila Pass which is the main demand of the people of Kargil.
During meeting with DG Border Roads at Headquarters Project Vijayak Kargil today, the CEC projected several issues of the local interests.
Director General Border Roads, Lt Gen SK Shrivastava visited frontier district Kargil and inspected ongoing projects of Project VIJAYAK of BRO including the ongoing works on Nimo- Padum- Darcha Road in Zanskar.
During the meeting the pace of work on various road connectivity projects taken up by BRO in the frontier district also discussed, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan impressed on to expedite work on the connectivity projects so that the people of this frontier district can be relived of difficulties of terrain and extreme weather conditions.
CEC also presented a memorandum which includes the transfer of road stretch from Captain Mordh to Zero Point (Zojila) National Highway 1-D from Project Beacon to Project Vijayak for up-gradations, maintenance and snow clearance, inclusion of road Barchey Choo to Lalung from KM 00 to 4.30 in BRD Programme and Long Term Roll on Works Plan (LTROWP), Up-gradation & Macadamization of Kargil -Batalik Road and Construction of a bypass road at Drass town etc.
Assuring CEC Kacho for redressing and raising the issues raised by Hill Council on proper platform, DG BR informed that to expedite the snow clearance work during winter month’s latest quality snow clearance machines will be procured by November this year.
Calling upon the need of proactive support to the organization from LAHDC Kargil, Lt Gen Shirivastava urged upon the CEC to expedite the settlement of land acquisition cases for construction of Drass -Bypass road so that the project could be started at the earliest.
