JAMMU, July 21: Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Shaleen Kabra convened a meeting with all the District Election Officers/Deputy District Election Officers/Electoral Registration Officers and Election Naib Tehsildars through video conferencing to review the “Special Enrolment Drive – 2017” launched by Election Commission of India with effect from 1st July to 31st July to enrol the eligible left out young electors of 18-21 years of age and “Interactive School Engagement” programme of Election Commission of India.
While reviewing the district wise achievements, the Chief Electoral Officer directed all officers that the age group wise proportion of population figures and elector registered shall again be verified and comprehensive strategy shall be devised so that maximum number of young left out electors are enrolled during the special drive.
He also stressed that DEOs and EROs shall closely monitor the organization of special enrolment camps at booth level on 22nd of July and in education institutions on 25th July for ensuring the maximum enrolment of young electors. For empowering young and future voters in the age group of 15 to 17 years (9th to 12th Standard), under “Interactive School Engagement”, each DEO/ERO shall adopt atleast 2 schools wherein the strength of the students in the age group of 15 to 17 years is maximum and interact and aware the students in rural and urban schools equally with suitable components from the prescribed kit based on the target audience and their familiarity with the format/medium.
DEOs were also directed to involve the district officers in the Interactive School Engagement, so that maximum number of schools in the districts are covered.
For strengthening/modernization of Election Department, CEO stressed for the implementation of the e-initiative as per Election Commission of India norms.
The meeting was attended by District Election Officers (DEOs)/ Dy. District Election Officers (Dy.DEOs)/Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) from the districts and Dr. Raman Kumar Keser, Joint CEO, Krishan Lal, Dy. Chief Electoral Officer and Raiz Ahmad Bhat, State Nodal Officer, SVEEP and others from CEO Office, J&K.
