JAMMU, July 22: To register their deep anguish and resentment against alleged step motherly treatment with Jammu by the State Government, activists of Public Opinion Forum (POF) today held a protest demonstration in front of the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near Tawi bridge.
A number of social activists, intellectuals, Doctors, Engineers, teachers, Advocates and students took part in the protest demonstration. They raised slogans against the State Government and its anti-Jammu policies.
The protesting POF activists were particularly agitated against biased selections made recently by the Public Service Commission, conversion of 49 posts of Assistant Professors in Kashmiri for introducing this language as a Subject in the colleges across Jammu division, posting of a particularly section of officers on important administrative and academic positions in Jammu .
While addressing the protest demonstration, president of the Public Opinion Forum, Parveen Sharma drew attention towards alleged regional and communal bias of J&K Public Service Commission in the recent selection of Assistant Professors for different subjects. He alleged that against the positions existing in Jammu province, most of the selected candidates belonged to Kashmir calley.
Further, he added, out of 12 Indoor stadiums, 8 were given to Kashmir whereas only three were earmarked for Jammu and one for Ladakh. “Out of 1000 SPOS, sanctioned by Government of India, 4500 were recruited from Kashmir, 1100 from Jammu and 100 each from Leh and Kargil while 4200 vacancies have been withheld as reserved,” Parveen further said.
Other speakers highlighted public resentment against the alleged designs to change the demography of Jammu region, particularly by settling the migration of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi here. They also demanded sacking of Chairman JKPSC, re-conduct of recently held exams against all the posts, separate PSC for Jammu region and immediate cancellation of the order on conversion of 49 posts of Assistant Professors in Kashmiri language for Jammu region.
The speakers appealed people of Jammu region to get prepared for launching a decisive movement against the injustice being done to the region.
Those who addressed the protest demonstration included Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Dr Satyadev Gupta, Dr Dushyant Choudhary, Dr Gopal Sharma, Dr Sandeep, Nirmal Vinod and Dr Chattarpal.
Meanwhile, the POF also submitted a memorandum to Governor of J&K State seeking his intervention for providing justice to the people of Jammu. The Memorandum was submitted to the visiting Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Dr Arun Manhas.
