Akhoon reviews essential commodities’ supply

JAMMU, Oct 29: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, chaired a meeting of officers of CAPD and Oil Companies to review the stock and supply position of LPG and essential commodities in various districts of Jammu province.
While addressing the meeting, the Minister exhorted upon the concerned officers to ensure timely distribution of essential commodities and LPG cylinders to the people.
Referring to approaching winter season, the Minister stressed upon the CAPD functionaries for ensuring advance stocking of foodgrains, sugar, K.oil and LPG cylinders at higher reaches of Jammu province for the convenience of the rationees. He also directed the concerned officers to regularly provide copy of schedule for Kerosene Oil supply to the MLAs of the area. He informed that the concerned agencies have already been directed to provide hassle free delivery of essential commodities especially LPG cylinder to the consumers in view of upcoming Diwali festival.
He also impressed upon the officers to personally monitor the ration supply to far-flung and remote areas of Jammu division so that the poor people living in these areas do not face any inconvenience in this regard.
The meeting also reviewed issuance of LPG agencies to different areas of Jammu province, district wise status of availability of foodgrains, LPG and identification of BPL families, distribution of ration under different schemes, BPL additional quota, regular, bifurcation and segregation of ration cards, etc. He also directed the department to monitor the quality of ration being received from Food Corporation of India (FCI).
However, all the four BJP MLAs Ashok Khajuria, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Shyam Choudhary and Sukhnandan Kumar-boycotted the meeting calling it a “futile exercisee”.
“It has become customary with the present NC-Congress Coalition Government to convene meetings, seek suggestions for improvement in functioning of its departments, claiming to provide a people friendly dispensation. But, in reality, it is only an eye wash,” Ashok Khajuria said.
He said that in the past also such meeting was held and despite valuable and result oriented suggestions not even a single of them was practically adopted.
Among others, MLAs Chaman Lal Gupta and Prof. Garu Ram, Director CAPD Pervez Malik, State Level Coordinator of Oil companies R. K. Shahab, Joint Controller Legal Metrology Amar Singh, besides other senior officers of CAPD, Indian Oil Corporation, Legal Metrology and other concerned departments were present in the meeting.
