Banks asked to increase credit flow to Leh farmers

LEH, Oct 29: The quarterly meeting of District Consultative Committee / District Level Review Committee Meeting of Bankers of the district was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Tsering Angchok.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner urged the Bankers to increase the flow of credits to the farmers and other interested units as LAHDC has shifted its focus from infrastructure to agriculture and allied sectors.
“With the commencement of power supply from 15 MW unit of Alchi Hydel Power Project before December and full commissioning of project in May-June 2013, the industrial units will be benefited immensely”, he said. He stressed upon the Bankers to improve the CD ratio which is a matter of concern as it stands at 19.83% with a meager increase of only 4% over the previous quarter which was 15.9% and is far below the stipulated average of 60%.
He directed both bankers and Agriculture Department to put extra efforts to achieve maximum coverage of Kissan Credit Card in the district and urged the bankers and line departments to extend more and more credit under the DRI scheme to uplift weaker sections of the society.
Earlier, Lead Bank Manager, Parvinder Bharthi apprised the meeting about the performance of banks in Leh in terms of Deposits/Advances, achievements of Government sponsored schemes like JKSES, PMEGP, SGGY, ST/SC, SHG, SCC and SJSRY.
The meeting was attended by Assistant General Manager RBI, Ravinder Kaul, Lead Bank Manager, Leh Parvinder Bharthi, CPO Leh Tashi Tundup, ACD Leh Kunzes Angmo, Deputy Director Employment, Dr Zahida Bano and Heads of various Departments.
