PEEU assures full cooperation in stopping power thefts

KATHUA, July 28: Provincial Electrical Employees Union (PEEU) has urged the PDD authorities to get the meters of all consumers installed by a proper agency.
This was disclosed by president of the Association P C Sharma while talking to reporters here today. He said the office bearers of the Union held a meeting with S E Circle Kathua and apprised him about the problems being faced by the meter readers. The meter readers of the district Kathua were also present in the meeting, he added.
Sharma said Union has urged the employees to extend their full support and make sincere efforts in stopping power thefts in the State. The employees and meter readers during the meeting took solemn pledge and assured the SE Circle Kathua that they will make their best efforts to stop the power theft if the Government and authorities of the department prepare a proper roadmap for the same.
He said the Union further demanded that the meters should be installed and commissioned where the cables have been laid by the company, the illegal connections should be disconnected and defaulters penalized on the basis of report submitted by meter readers, he added.
He said the Union informed the SE that flat rate system is unacceptable to consumers and some via media should be sorted out for the non metered connections because meter readers are threatened when they impose flat rate.
Sharma further said that Union demanded that there should be no nepotism in transfers and shuffling must be done impartially. Besides, the employees be ensured security and those who threat the employees should be dealt under law.
Sharma also made an appeal to employees of the department to motivate consumers to use power judiciously and also appealed people to regularize their connections. Further he also appealed the prominent citizens and civil society to come forward in extending full cooperation to department in stopping the power thefts by exposing those who are involved in power thefts.
Sharma made an appeal to Government to redress the genuine demands of PDD employees like regularization of daily wagers, conducting of DPC at all levels, reorganization of Department by creating more posts, providing of benefits of SRO 149, 59 and other SROs to employees at par with employees of Kashmir region and protect the genuine rights of employees.
