LEH, July 29: Member Parliament (MP) Thupstan Chhewang today inaugurated a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) here at Sub-Post Office.
It is the 2nd Post Office Passport Seva Kendra of the State. The chief guest on the occasion was MP Thupstan Chhewang while Dr Sonam Dawa, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC and Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA Leh, were other special invitees.
A total of 30 appointments per day have been made available at www.passportindia.gov.in for the applicants. Applicants of district Leh and nearby hilly district of Kargil can directly opt for appointments at POPSK Leh and complete their passport application formalities without coming to the Regional Passport Office, Srinagar.
While addressing a gathering of around 300 people from various walks of society, Thupstan Chhewang, said that it is historic day vis-a-vis passport services in the Ladakh region. He further added that POPSK Leh will be huge advantage to the residents of far flung hilly districts of Ladakh region.
Dr Sonam Dawa and Nawang Rigzin Jora also spoke on the occasion. In their addresses, both emphasized the need to further improve the internet connectivity in the region.
Earlier in his welcome address, Vimarsh Aryan, Regional Passport Officer (J&K) presented a detailed report regarding the modus operandi of POPSK Leh.
GR Parray, Senior Superintendent of Posts, presented the formal vote of thanks.
