Tricolour will flutter high despite evil wishers: Col Sahi

JAMMU, July 30: Reacting strongly to the apprehensions of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti that “Nobody will hold Tricolor in Kashmir if Article 35A is tampered with”, the war veteran and State Director of the War Decorated India, Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, has said that the Tricolour will flutter high despite of evil wishers.
In a statement issued here, Col Sahi urged the CM to look beyond her political constituency and the two and a half districts of South Kashmir. “The vast regions of the J&K and its larger nationalist population are there to hold the tricolor high”, he said, adding that abrogation of Article 35 may add another 125 crore to them.
“The Tricolour will flutter higher in spite of evil wishers”, he assured the Chief Minister offering full support when she is under multiple pressures in the armed insurgency infested State.
Sahi said that following the full and final accession of J&K to the Indian Union on October 26, 1947, the Maharaja ceded control over defence, external affairs and communications to the Government of India, and the Article 370 of the Constitution of India and the concomitant Constitutional Order of 1950 formalized this relationship.
Thereafter, the President of India issued The Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 1954, through which Indian citizenship was extended to the “residents” of the State, and simultaneously the Article 35A was inserted into the Indian Constitution enabling the State legislature to define the privileges of the permanent residents.
As an amendment to, or modification of, the 1954 order, 41 subsequent Presidential orders were passed afterwards, through which Central Government extended 94 out of 97 entries in the Union List to J&K and made applicable to the State 260 out of 395 articles of the Indian Constitution. “Yet another modification/amendment calls for no furor”, said the veteran.
